Like most folks do in rescue, I started out independently. I’ve always had empathy for animals because they’re sentient beings, they hunger, they thirst, they feel cold or heat, they get scared, they’re in pain, they’re happy, they’re joyful. Fast forward to 2018 when I adopted from rescue owned by a woman named, Teri Porter. I worked along side her rescuing animals. She told me she was looking to retire and needed someone to take over that would continue make an impact. After seeing the effort I was putting in, she offered to transfer it over to me. Lori, the non profit’s namesake, was actually a friend of Teri’s, who independently helped many rescues in the areas around The Valley. When I took over, I promised Teri that there would always be mention of her dear friend, Lori, who helped many animals as she could and that we would continue to do the same.
